Where to get Lunch in North Sydney under $15

You might feel stranded in the North Sydney CBD, caught between upmarket restaurants and $25 pub burgers. Have no fear: here’s your guide to an affordable lunch in North Sydney.

Let’s be honest: North Sydney isn’t really the best place to find yourself looking for a bite, especially if you’re trying to save a little money.

If you are, however, trapped in the North Sydney CBD — the cost of living crisis’ heart of darkness — here's a quick list of reasonably priced lunch spots you can seek refuge at.

Banh Mi

Can’t go wrong with a Banh Mi for a cheap, simple lunch. While it might have been a little bit of trouble to find a Vietnamese place in North Sydney a decade ago, now there are plenty of options. Try these three out if you're ever keen on a Banh Mi around the North Sydney CBD.

Delis and Sandwich shops

If you’re looking for a more classic deli-sandwich-shop type lunch, you’re in luck too: there’s a couple of pretty affordable options worth checking out around the area.

Vienna Sandwiches

Vienna Sandwiches, found just along Mount Street, serve a variety of Viennese style sandwiches at a decent price, with fillings including Danube Ham, Vienna Rissoles, and Sexy Tuna (?). The sandwich shop also seems to have a section on their website solely dedicated to daily affirmations for success, which is nice, I suppose.

Fiore Bread

Don’t like to feel pigeonholed by the sandwich options on the menu? At Fiore Bread, you can make your own sandwich, choosing from 4 ingredients to fill your Panino at the very reasonable price of $9. You can also add additional ingredients for one dollar each.

Where: 129 Blues Point Road

Arthur Street Deli

This shop sells classic deli-style sandwiches packed with meat and cheese. $13.50 for a chicken schnitzel sandwich doesn't sound too bad to me. The deli also serves salad bowls for under the 15 dollar mark.

Be sure to check out the sandwich of the week on the deli’s Instagram.

La Tazzina

You can’t find anything about this small cafe online, which is always a good sign when you're looking for a place with pre-internet prices. This is a proper old style Australian cafe serving cups of tea and vegemite on toast. If you’re looking for an unpretentious lunch at a reasonable price, this is the place.

Looking for something a bit bigger?

If you’re keen on something that’s a bit more of a meal than a sandwich, these places should have what you're looking for.

Jingogae Korean Restaurant

Sitting right next to Stanton Library and across the road from North Sydney Oval, this small Korean restaurant is the perfect place to grab a bite in North Sydney.

On the more affordable side of the menu, the restaurant serves a variety of meat and rice dishes for takeaway, as well as traditional Korean meals such as dumplings, ramyun and Bulgogi.

Firangi

Firangi is an Indian fusion restaurant sitting in the heart of the North Sydney CBD. If you’re looking for something new, try a lamb or butter chicken jaffle from there, served with the chef’s special sauce.

Where: 121 Walker St

Blues Point Hotel

From Monday to Thursday, Blues Point Hotel in McMahons Point runs their lunch specials. Get a chicken schnitzel and chips, tacos, or a chicken wrap for just $15 for a weekday lunch. Better yet, swing by for a late lunch and pick up a happy hour bevvy at 4pm.

Where: 116 Blues Point Rd

Bon Pollo North Sydney

Looking for a chicken shop feed? Head down to this authentic Lebanese spot, Bon Pollo, where you can grab a quarter chicken meal, chicken burger or wrap here all for under $15 dollars. All meat served at Bon Pollo is also halal-certified, and the restaurant also serves vegetarian and vegan options.

Ambis Chai

Ambi’s Chai is a small chain of chai bars operating across Sydney in three locations, serving “authentically brewed afro-punjabi chai”. Along with a chai, you can also grab a roti wrap or toastie at their North Sydney location on Ridge Street.
