Independent candidate for Bradfield Andy Yin explains his preferences

The outspoken politician is "sending a message" by encouraging his supporters to place the Labor Party second at the ballot box.

The Bradfield electorate’s ballot paper is a crowded one this election.

Following Liberal MP Paul Fletcher’s retirement announcement last year and a near-victory from other Independent candidate Nicolette Boele in the 2022 federal poll, the North Shore seat is open for the taking.

On Thursday afternoon the North Shore Lorikeet caught Andy Yin outside a Chatswood polling booth for a chat about his preferences as listed on his how-to-vote cards.

The candidate has placed Louise McCallum (Labor) at #2, Samuel Joseph Gunning (Libertarian) at #3, Nicolette Boele (Independent) #4, Gisele Kapterian (Liberal) #5, followed by the Trumpet of Patriots candidate Rosemary Mulligan at #6 and lastly Harjit Singh for The Greens at #7.
