After rejecting a previous offer from SCEGGS Redlands, North Sydney has re-entered negotiations to sell the school a public road in Cremorne.

What happened: On Monday night, North Sydney councillors voted to “finalise negotiations” regarding the sale of Monford Place, Cremorne to the school. 

Where: Monford Place is a cul de sac off Military Road. It is bordered on both sides by red brick townhouses owned by the school.

The private school - where annual fees are up to $47,000 - first asked about buying the street in 2021, but council was not willing to sell.

How much: On Monday councillors were told by staff there was a “current offer” on the table, however the agenda papers did not say what the offer was, nor who made it. A source has confirmed to the Lorikeet that the offer was made by SCEGGS Redlands.

Council staff had recommended accepting an offer that was the same or higher than the one made by SCEGGS, or alternatively, at a price set by an independent valuer. 

However, Deputy Mayor MaryAnn Beregi successfully amended the motion to remove the current offer from negotiations and instead rely on the independent valuation.

Council staff would not comment on any proposed sale price.
