An historic North Shore cinema will continue to operate under a new owner with “strong ties to the cinema community” who paid over $8 million to acquire the heritage-listed picture palace.
What happened: Roseville Cinemas hit the market in September for the first time since it was purchased by the Van Pinxteren family in 1974. A judgement from the Supreme Court of NSW ordered the property be sold in order to pay debts.
On Thursday, it was announced the cinema had been sold to a “renowned cinema operator for more than $8 million”.
Tight-lipped: Knight Frank, who managed the sale, have been reluctant to give out specifics on the buyer. In a media release, they described the new owner as an “operator with strong ties to the cinema community, which intends to retain the cinema use”.
While it seems the property will continue to operate as a cinema, its independent status remains up in the air.
