Who can I vote for?

Berowra

The electorate of Berowra includes the Local Government Areas of Hornsby and the Hills.

Liberal Julian Leeser has held the seat since 2016.

Julian Leeser (Liberal)

A member of the Liberal party’s moderate faction, according to his website Leeser has been a proponent of NorthConnex, better telecommunications, delivering grants to community organisations and sporting infrastructure upgrades.

He was the first Jewish Liberal Party candidate from NSW to be elected to the House of Representatives. Leeser lives in Thornleigh with his wife and two children and has a background in law.

Tina Brown (Independent)

Tina Brown is a mother of four and small business owner also residing in Thornleigh. Among her key issues are cost of living, climate change action, mental health and women’s safety. She spoke with the North Shore Lorikeet on Monday.

Bradfield

Bradfield covers the Ku-Ring-Gai suburbs of Lindfield, Killara, Roseville, Turramurra, Pymble, St Ives and Wahroonga, as well as the Willoughby LGA, which includes St Leonards, Naremburn, Northbridge, Castlecrag, Castle Cove, Middle Cove, Willoughby, Artarmon and parts of Chatswood.

The once-safe North Shore Liberal seat is now balanced by a fine margin, with Independent Nicolette Boele rallying support during the last election and almost overtaking longstanding MP Paul Fletcher. Paul Fletcher announced his retirement last December.

Nicolette Boele (Independent)

Boele grew up and lives with her family in Gordon, and her priorities are “universal childcare, making groceries more affordable, addressing the housing crisis, cutting red tape for small businesses, and taking serious climate action”.

The North Shore Lorikeet attended her campaign launch in February, which you can read about here.

Andy Yin (Independent)

Andy Yin is a businessman who says he has “a strong appreciation for family, education, and hard work”. He describes himself as “championing core Liberal Values”.

His concerns are housing, business, education, energy and immigration. Read more about his policies here.

Gisele Kapterian (Liberal)

Gisele Kapterian lives in North Willoughby and has a background in law. According to her bio she “will fight for local families, assist small and family businesses and deliver investment for the services and infrastructure that our community needs”.

Louise McCallum (Labor)

Louise McCallum lives in Lindfield and runs a consultancy business. McCallum told the North Shore Lorikeet that residents of Bradfield are concerned about affordable housing, health and the energy transition, and that her policies are focused on the areas that are going to make a difference for the next generation.

Bennelong

The electorate of Bennelong includes areas that are traditionally thought of as “North Shore” as well as areas of the City of Parramatta and Ryde. It is currently represented by the Labor Party’s Jerome Laxale and is a marginal seat, with barely 2% in play between Laxale and the Liberal’s Simon Kennedy in the 2022 election.

Jerome Laxale (Labor)

Jerome Laxale is the member for Bennelong and has worked in government for 10 years. Previously the Mayor of the City of Ryde, Laxale lives in North Ryde with his family. According to his campaign website, Laxale’s interests include climate change, health, housing, enhancing multiculturalism and local representation.

Scott Yung (Liberal)

Scott Yung is the Liberal candidate for Bennelong, born in Sydney to migrant parents. He has worked as a teller at a local bank branch before becoming the Head of Recruitment at an ASX-listed wealth management company. According to his campaign website, Yung is focused on backing local small businesses and reducing the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis.

Warringah

Following changes to the boundaries of multiple federal electorates of the North Shore, some parts of Sydney’s northern suburbs are included in the once-Northern Beaches heavy electorate of Warringah. These additional suburbs include Mosman, Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Cammeray, Crows Nest, Wollstonecraft, Waverton, Kirribilli, Lavender Bay and North Sydney. It is currently represented by Independent MP Zali Steggall.

Zali Steggall (Independent)

Elected in the 2019 federal election and re-elected in 2022, Zali Steggall is a Northern Beaches-local with a focus on effective climate strategy, boosting healthcare, and integrity and accountability in politics.

Jamiee Rogers (Liberal)

A former Olympic athlete and Warringah local, Jamiee Rogers has a background in television and radio and holds a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Management as well as a Master’s in Marketing. According to her campaign website, Rogers is focused on delivering a strong economy and making housing more affordable.
