Keen on growing more native flora in your backyard?
For Hornsby Shire residents interested in sprucing up their garden — while also protecting biodiversity — the annual native plant giveaway has opened for bookings.

Hornsby Shire Council’s annual native plant program has returned, incentivising residents to grow native grasses, shrubs, trees and other flora in their backyards and gardens.
The giveaway event, scheduled for late next month, will allow residents of the shire to adopt up to four native plants from the Warada Ngurang Community Nursery in Pennant Hills.
Council staff and nursery volunteers will be available during the event to inform and advise attendees about the needs of each plant, as well as which plants would be best suited to a resident’s garden.
In a statement, Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell said that the adoption of local native plants helps “preserve the integrity of our bushland and support ecosystems.”
“Every home gardener has an important role in protecting our biodiversity, particularly our native flora and fauna.”
To take part in the giveaway, you must reside within the Hornsby Shire Local Government Area, and make a booking ahead of time via the council website. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, is required.
