šµ Let's get gothic
The Australian Gothic, sunny beer gardens, secret climate reports, and a blast from the past
ā±ļø The 48th edition of our newsletter is a 5-minute read.
Morning all,
Thank you all for your excellent ghost stories last week. Mel is keen to get investigating.
Thereās another spectre haunting Sydney though: single-use plastic decorations. Iām hoping that this Halloween, we can come up with ways to decorate our houses and front yards without sending tonnes of synthetic cobwebs, fake skeletons, and plastic pumpkins into landfill.
I donāt want to be the grinch (?) who stole Halloween though!
If anything I think we can get more creative, more strange and more fun if we DIY halloween decorations. Australia is full of great horror if you look for it. Just look at our classic movies: The Cars That Ate Paris didnāt need fake spider webs. Wake In Fright didnāt need light-up plastic jack-o-lanterns.
Though you canāt buy Donald Pleasence at Kmart, of course.

šļø Anyway, letās get into the rest of the news.

𤫠The governmentās secret climate security report ā and why MPs are worried.
Our national reporter Archie Milligan took the time this week to sit down with Warringah MP Zali Steggall to talk about that other climate report - the one that gets into the national security and safety risks associated with climate change.
The Government is keeping this report under wraps, and Steggall is one of the few whoāve seen it. She thinks the rest of us ought to be able to see it too.
